Jane's Advanced Strike Fighters Serial Number

10999 The F-16C is the United States Air Force's (USAF) newest high-performance single-seat fighter aircraft. Designed to counter the current generation of Russian and Chinese fourth-generation fighters, it is derived from the F-15 Eagle/Eagle Advanced-Initial Test (EA-15) which was produced for the U.S. Air Force's Advanced Tactical Fighter program. "The program will bring the F-16 to new levels of performance, reliability, maintainability, and combat capability," said the USAF Deputy Secretary of Defense. Production of the F-16C began in December 1979 and continued through to June 1989. 663 aircraft were produced. F-16Cs remain in use with USAF tactical and air superiority squadrons, and most are now in operational service. Some have also been deployed in a training role. The F-16C is a significant upgrade of the F-16A/B and F-16D. The F-16C is powered by a General Electric F110-GE-400 turbofan engine producing 4,760 hp (3,530 kW) and generating 5,055 lbf (23.7 kN) of thrust, and incorporates a redesigned fuselage, wings, and tailplane. Other changes include an improved weapons system with a digital weapon sight, new aft-facing radar system, new glass cockpit, and improved operational capabilities. The F-16C was first publicly displayed on 15 April 1981. Initial flight testing began in July 1981 and took place at Edwards AFB. On 24 October 1982, the first production aircraft, serial number 10999, made its first flight. The first production aircraft flew on 24 October 1982. An F-16C from the Japan Air Self Defense Force made its first flight on 25 October 1985. Design and development The F-16C is a high-speed, single-seat, single-engine, four-place, twin-rotor, canard-delta wing fighter aircraft that can be launched vertically. The first F-16s flew in April 1979, and the design entered full-scale development in July 1977. USAF and air force developmental flight testing began in 1979, and USAF operational testing began in 1981. The F-16 first entered squadron service in 1983. The F-16C is derived from the F-16A/B and F-16D. It is the fourth version of the F-16 to be produced
